The Department's pursuit is the cultivation of the necessary theoretical and empirical background, so that students acquire an overview of contemporary general fundamental approaches to social relations, the social behavior of acting subjects, as well as critical specific aspects of Sociology and its applications on the basis of a solid knowledge of the historical concepts that shaped this specific scientific discipline. The Department of Sociology, by offering both general orientation and basic knowledge courses, as well as a series of specialized content courses, aims to provide students with a curriculum that will equip them with the theoretical and empirical training that will enable them to approach and analyze a wide range of social phenomena, to understand the transformation processes of contemporary societies, and to investigate\/apply their scientific knowledge and skills in academic and professional environments of varying demands.<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">Specifically, the curriculum focuses on eight different thematic modules related to the scientific field of Sociology, which are inextricably combined with other social sciences, highlighting the necessarily interdisciplinary character of this specific field. In this context, the Department promotes theoretical knowledge in combination with empirical research, so that upon successful completion of the undergraduate curriculum, graduates of the Department will be able\u2014based on the general and specialized knowledge and skills acquired during their studies\u2014to work in a wide range of scientific activities, either as freelancers or as employees under any employment relationship, or to continue to second- or even third-cycle studies in the broader field of the social sciences.<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">More specifically, the objectives regarding the learning outcomes of the program are as follows:<\/p><h2 class=\"text-justify\">Acquisition of knowledge<\/h2><p class=\"text-justify\">a) acquisition of knowledge and systematic understanding of the scientific field of Sociology (sociological theories, sociological research and its methods, political and social philosophy, critical social theory), as well as its contribution to the understanding of social phenomena and their various dimensions both from a historical perspective and in their contemporary form, as well as the processes of social transformation of the modern globalized world (political sociology, economic sociology, sociology of migration, sociology of education, sociology of the family, sociology of culture, sociology of science and technology, sociology of work, sociology of religion, urban sociology, etc.).<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">(b) also acquiring knowledge in specific aspects of the science of sociology (e.g., gender, gender discrimination and gender-based violence, sexuality and power, inequalities, digital labor, society and information knowledge, leisure time, rights, social movements, etc.), which currently determine the perspective and orientations of a wide range of the social sciences.<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">(c) acquisition of basic knowledge in broader fields of the social sciences (introduction to political science, principles of political economy, history, state and society, social psychology, law - democracy - rights, nationalism and national identity, etc.) as the necessary background for the study of social relations<\/p><h2 class=\"text-justify\">Skill development:<\/h2><p class=\"text-justify\">Upon completing the undergraduate program, male and female students will be able to:<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">a) to understand the basic theoretical approaches of the science of sociology (classical and contemporary sociological theories)<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">(b) to understand the basic concepts (such as social structure, inequalities, social discrimination, gender relations, social perceptions, migration, etc.) and research methods (quantitative and qualitative) of the science of sociology and to apply, study, specialize, and integrate them into their professional and broader activities,<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">(c) to understand the convergences and differences between the various scientific fields of the social sciences and to become familiar with communication between the different scientific fields,<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">d) to understand the role of social research and analysis and to apply it empirically by utilizing the appropriate methodological tools,<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">e) acquisition of basic knowledge and skills in quantitative and qualitative sociological research methods (using appropriate and specialized software programs) and their application in the work or educational environment,<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">f) to develop skills in the written and oral presentation of scientific papers, as well as familiarity with technology for writing and presenting papers and their application in social research.<\/p><h2 class=\"text-justify\">Capacity Building:<\/h2><p class=\"text-justify\">a) deeper sociological thinking (examination of basic sociological theories and the ability to conduct a comparative study of them) and their analytical approach,<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">\u00a0(b) understanding and analyzing specific social phenomena within the context of contemporary broader transformations.<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">c) identifying the appropriate theoretical and\/or empirical tools for examining specific social phenomena according to the scientific requirements of their examination environment (academic research, public or private professional bodies).<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">d) of the corresponding flexibility in the selection of scientific methods, as well as the related opening up of career prospects.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">(d) perception of social problems and ways of addressing them with an awareness of the conditions and impacts of the available options.<\/p><p class=\"text-justify\">e) communication, dialogue, and cooperation both at the academic level and with institutional or professional bodies, as well as civil
