Resume

Manolis Patiniotis is a historian of modern science and technology. He served as a professor in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and, since 2021, has been a professor in the Department of Sociology at the same university. For many years, he studied the history of science in the European periphery and sought to connect the study of European science with postcolonial studies. In recent years, his research interests have turned to the study of the history and philosophy of the digital. From a historical perspective, he investigates the formation of digital ontology through the intersection of Information Theory with the emergence of Discrete State Machines. From a philosophical perspective, he explores the concepts of articulability and potentiality, as well as the new forms of social performativity they enable. He was a member of the editorial board of the journal Science Communication Prism and of the academic committees that coordinated the establishment of the postgraduate programs «Science Communication» of the Hellenic Open University and «Philosophy and Sociology of Arts and Culture» (Department of Sociology, NKUA - Department of Philosophy, University of Patras).
