Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of NCSR Demokritos
The Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications (IIT) of the National Centre for Scientific Research «Demokritos» conducts research and develops technologies in the fields of Telecommunications, Networks, Intelligent Information Systems, and the Internet. Strategically positioned at the heart of research into technologies that are transforming society and culture, it is a privileged partner of the Department of Sociology in its effort to map and interpret these transformations. IIT itself demonstrates exceptional sensitivity to the social and ethical dimension of technological changes and develops Science Communication activities aimed at facilitating the engagement of its research personnel with citizens and stakeholders.
Through its collaboration with INP&T, the Department of Sociology can draw useful research data that will contribute to the more accurate and detailed monitoring of social transformations associated with science, technology, and digitality. Furthermore, INP&T serves as a venue for education and field research for undergraduate students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers of the Department of Sociology. The preparation of research proposals, as well as joint Science Communication and outreach activities, are also included in the plans of the two entities.
