Philosophy and Sociology of Arts and Culture

Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program

The Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Programme «Philosophy and Sociology of Arts and Culture» aims to provide theoretical and practical training in the fields of philosophy and sociology of arts and culture, aiming not only at the transmission of historical knowledge, but also at laboratory intervention in the present. The subject matter treated by the MSc concerns fields of philosophy and social theory spanning from the 18th to the 21st century and from philosophical aesthetics to cultural, scientific and gender studies. The MA provides students with the knowledge and tools to understand the ferment that led to the multiple transformations of the arts and to actively contribute to shaping the contemporary landscape of artistic and cultural production. Its purpose is to provide a bridge between past and present as well as between theory and practice. Particular emphasis is placed on the changes brought about by the digital condition in the constitution of the social fabric, in the formation of the subject and public space, in the meaning and role of art, in the processes of its production and reception. In this way, the MSc will be an essential tool for the active, informed engagement of students in the field of artistic and cultural production and management under contemporary conditions.
