Manos Spyridakis (M.A. University of Durham, PhD University of Sussex) is a Professor of Social Anthropology and Chair of the Department of Sociology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He is a member of the editorial board of the journals, The World of Work, Urbanities, The Greek Review of Social Research, Social Cohesion and Development. President of Commission of Urban Anthropology of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences and Vice President of International Urban Symposium. He has taught at US and European universities and has served as President and General Director of the Labour Institute of the Ministry of Labour, Vice President of Finance of the Hellenic Open University, as well as a member of committees of the Ministries of Justice and Education. In 2023, he was a European Commission expert on Disability, and since 2020 he has been the scientific coordinator for six funded research projects. He is the author of the monographs, Power and Workplace Harassment (2009), Work and Social Reproduction in Shipbuilding and Shiprepair Industry of Piraeus (2010), The Liminal Worker. An Ethnography of Work, Unemployment and Precariousness in Contemporary Greece (Routledge, 2013) and Homo Precarius (2018). His recent publications include the volumes, Health and Society (2023 - co-edited with Ch. Oikonomou) and, Soft Skills and Transformations of Work (2025 - co-editing with Ch. Karakioulafi, M. Christodoulou, M. Drakaki).
