Interested in an exchange at our faculty?
The Department of Sociology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens welcomes incoming Erasmus+ and CIVIS students.
Incoming students are invited to explore the Department’s study programme and to select courses that correspond to their academic interests and to the requirements of their home university.
Language of Instruction and Assessment
Please note that the courses offered by the Department of Sociology are taught in Greek.
However, incoming Erasmus+/CIVIS students are not required to know Greek in order to successfully complete courses in our Department. Students may choose courses from the Department’s study programme and complete the course requirements in English, always in agreement and consultation with the professor responsible for each course.

Courses from Other Departments
Incoming Erasmus+/CIVIS students may also have the possibility to select courses taught in English by other Departments from the School of Economics and Political Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, depending on availability and approval through the Learning Agreement.
In practice, many incoming students combine courses from the Department of Sociology with one or two English-taught courses from other Departments.

Course Selection
Incoming students may choose courses from the Department of Sociology’s study programme, provided that these courses are compatible with their Learning Agreement and approved by their home university.
Most Sociology courses carry 6 ECTS. For a standard workload of 30 ECTS, incoming students nominated to the Department of Sociology are normally expected to select at least three courses from the Department.
The final programme of study is discussed and confirmed with the Academic Coordinator upon the student’s arrival in Athens.
