(2) LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:

  • recognize and understand the main themes of European history in the 19th and 20th centuries.
  • they interpret and evaluate the political, economic, social, and ideological developments that determined the conditions under which modern European societies were formed.
  • understand the factors and parameters of political confrontations and conflicts.
  • deepen and understand the continuities and discontinuities of major changes and problems in Greek history.

Following the teaching and successful examination of the course, students are expected to have assimilated the manner of political, economic, and cultural evolution of European societies during the 19th and 20th centuries, and to utilize their historical knowledge in studying other courses and writing their assignments.

Napoleonic Wars and Congress of Vienna
Restoration and European revolutions
Crimean War and reorganization of Europe
The Italian and German unification
19th-century ideological currents and movements
Europe after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 – Bismarck's Europe
Economic and social processes in Europe, 1880-1914
Political and ideological currents 1880-1914
Turmoil in the Balkans and European competition – Its alliances
World War I
Developments in Interwar Europe
World War II (Occupation, Holocaust, etc.)
The design of the postwar world
The Cold War (origins and individual phases).

Process Description Evaluation

Final written exam (100%) consisting of:
– Multiple choice questions
– Essay/critical thinking questions
– Short-answer questions

II. In case of presentation of an optional individual and/or group assignment or exercise, the evaluation is conducted as follows:
A) Written Final Exam (80%) and B) Project Presentation (20%)

The evaluation is conducted in the Greek language. For the successful completion of the course, a final grade equal to or greater than 5 (five) is required.
The answer to the questions is considered complete when it is factually accurate, satisfactorily justified, and clearly formulated.
After the announcement of the grades, students can view their exam paper at any time in order to understand the grade they received. The final exam grades are posted in the relevant system of the Department's Secretariat.
